Avvie is an initiative of Hugo Lingeman, innkeeper and internet entrepreneur. In 1994 he opened his first B&B in Amsterdam and around that time he started applying his marketing skills to the internet.

The success of one of his sites for Amsterdam Bed and Breakfasts, inspired him to start Avvie and apply his experience in this business to a worldwide directory and a simple yet powerful bed and breakfast availability calendar. Avvie is a Private Limited Company, with offices in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

Avvie supports the child aid organization Net4kids, based in The Netherlands. Avvie donates a percentage of its turnover to a Net4kids project, every year. Net4kids has a unique set up in that all of the sponsored funds are directly and for the full 100% allocated to the projects to support underprivileged children, no deductions for overhead costs or marketing campaigns. Projects cover areas such as education, health care and housing in Asia and Africa.
